HAYWARD — A woman who was killed after the California Highway Patrol said her speeding truck crashed off of Interstate 580 Sunday morning was identified by the coroner’s office Wednesday as 18-year-old Destiny Garcia-Gonzalez of Los Banos.
The fatal crash happened about 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the eastbound lanes of I-580 near Grove Way.
The CHP said said that according to at least one witness, Garcia-Gonzales, 18, was speeding in a Nissan Frontier in the lane closest to the center divider when the truck suddenly veered across all traffic lanes, crashed through a fence and went down a 60-foot embankment, rolling over several times before coming to rest.
She was not ejected from the truck and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
CHP investigators are still trying to determine if Garcia-Gonzalez dozed off or experienced some kind of medical emergency causing the truck to veer off the roadway.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the CHP Hayward office at 510-489-1500.
