The Pick of the Day is a 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible listed by an Iowa dealership on ClassicCars.com.
It may not feel like it to some of you out there, but summer is almost over. Soon, the brutal heat will cool to the gentler temperatures of the fall. Either way you look at it, it’s a cause for celebration. A great way to enjoy the changing of the seasons is by going for a cruise in a convertible, such as this 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS drop-top.
Chevrolet introduced the next generation of the Impala in the 1965 model year. The 1966 Impala got restyled front fenders, grille, bumpers, and wraparound taillights. This ’66 SS convertible is an older restoration that benefits from those factory changes as well as some more modern updates, such as a 454ci V8 with a four-barrel carburetor and a TH400 three-speed automatic, which replaces the original Powerglide two-speed unit. Four-wheel power disc brakes provide the “slow” to reign in that “go.”
This Impala has plenty of “show” as well. The body was refinished in the original color of Marina Blue, although the passage of time has left it with some blemishes. The colors of the vinyl seats and the power-operated soft top have been changed to white, giving this convertible summer-friendly upholstery (so you and your friends won’t cook in the remaining summer heat) and a cheerful, care-free brightness.
Speaking of care-free: You won’t have to worry about muscling the steering wheel because this car comes equipped with power steering. Dual exhaust outlets let out the roar of the big-block V8, but if for some reason you and your passengers want to listen to something with lyrics, you can crank up the original AM radio or the Pioneer AM/FM stereo.
For better or worse, summer is still here for a little longer, but there’s no telling when exactly this Impala SS convertible will be gone. If you want to take it off the market right now, be prepared to put down $45,995 – and to call up some friends to go with you for a top-down drive.
