OAKLAND — A motorcyclist died Tuesday night in West Oakland from injuries suffered when he crashed into an AC Transit bus, authorities said.

The name of the man killed has not yet been released pending notification of his family.  Authorities said he was an Oakland resident in his 50s.

The fatal collision happened about 9:19 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 10th and Market streets.

Police said based on the initial investigation it appears the motorcyclist was riding northbound on Market Street and that based on video from the AC Transit bus, he failed to stop for a red light and collided with the bus that was making a left hand turn onto 10th Street from Market Street.

Police said the bus driver provided first aid to the motorcyclist before emergency personnel got to the scene.  The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police said it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
