ORINDA — A man suspected of stabbing a 54-year-old rider on an Antioch-bound BART train Tuesday night was arrested at the Orinda station, authorities said.

The victim, an Oakland resident, was stabbed in his upper arm. The wound was considered non-life threatening and the man was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The stabbing happened about 11:58 p.m. Tuesday.

BART spokesman James Allison said Wednesday the victim was stabbed with a knife. He said the motive for the attack was under investigation and there was no information indicating that the victim and suspect knew each other.

Both the suspect, a 50-year-old Martinez man, and the victim got off the train at the Orinda BART Station, where they were contacted by police.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats. He was being held in lieu of $$55,000 bail at the Martinez Detention Facility.
