Josey is best choice
for Dublin mayor

Jean Josey is the best candidate for Dublin Mayor.

Josey has served with great distinction on the City Council since she was first elected in 2018. As the most experienced member of the council, she is resourceful, thorough and prepared to act in the best interests of all of Dublin’s residents.

It’s not a coincidence that the city’s strong fiscal position, the creation of state-of-the-art parks and arts facilities and the support of small businesses through the pandemic have come during her tenure. She is about Dublin. Councilmember Josey, who served as vice mayor in 2022, always makes an effort to hear from residents, and she wants to understand what is important to them. She never fails to act with integrity and principle. She shows up at events across the City to engage and participate because this is her home and its prosperity is her biggest priority.

Elect Jean Josey.

Trump falls short of
presidential material

Re: “Vote for results; vote for Trump” (Page A6, Aug. 22).

I recently read a letter with the words “Vote for results” in the headline — ironically it was about Donald Trump.

I can’t speak for everyone, but why would you vote for a person who doesn’t know the meaning of the words morality, honesty or ethics and who obviously doesn’t live by them? Why would you vote for someone who has admitted he wants to be a dictator: “You got to get out and vote. In four years, you don’t have to vote again. We’ll have it fixed so good you’re not going to have to vote.”

I want to live in a free country, one where democracy is the word used to describe it. Please vote.

Harris’ ethnicity, race
should be off-limits

Donald Trump’s comments about Kamala Harris’ race and ethnicity are reprehensible. Respect is due, Mr. Trump.

Ms. Harris Is the first Black woman to serve as vice president, and the first Indian American woman to serve as vice president. She is also the first Black woman to be nominated for president by a major party, and the first Indian American to be nominated for president by a major party.

Race and gender have no place in this election. I cannot fathom why Trump keeps bringing it up. He needs to stop — now.

Urge Congress not to
take out Prop. 12

Certain special interests in the pork industry are pressuring Congress to overturn Proposition 12 via the Farm Bill. Proposition 12 sets commonsense animal welfare and food safety standards on certain animal products and was passed overwhelmingly in California in 2018.

Nullifying this law via the federal Farm Bill would not only overrule the will of voters, but it would be a step backward and undermine the progress of treating animals more humanely. The proposed Farm Bill language in the U.S. House of Representatives would go beyond dismantling Proposition 12; it could invalidate hundreds of other state laws that protect public health and have devastating repercussions.

As a voter in California who cares deeply about how animals are treated, I respectfully urge Senator Alex Padilla to stand against these controversial attempts to gut Proposition 12 and work to keep language that invalidates state animal welfare and agriculture laws out of the final Farm Bill.
