Sounds of summer

Two summer music series are wrapping up in downtown Sunnyvale this month. Legally Blue will play R&B and soul on Aug. 24 as part of the Jazz and Beyond series, which closes out Aug. 31 with a performance by former Santana singer Tony Lindsay.

The 25th annual Music and Market Summer series has one more show this season, when the Groove Foundation plays R&B and funk.

All concerts are set for 6-8:30 p.m. on Murphy Avenue. For more information, visit https://sunnyvaledowntown.org/events.

NLC roadshow

Sunnyvale was an official stop on the National League of Cities’ (NLC) “Centennial Roadshow: 100 Years, 100 Cities.” The roadshow pulled into town on Aug. 3, when city officials provided a tour of the downtown and new city hall. They also focused on the city’s sustainability and housing priorities.

Part of NLC’s yearlong centennial celebration, the roadshow includes stops in every region of the country, aimed at spotlighting America’s local communities. It kicked off in February at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where NLC was founded. Since then, the roadshow has been stopping in cities of all sizes to showcase their unique stories. The roadshow will culminate in November in Tampa, Florida, where NLC will host its annual City Summit conference.

The NCL advocates for local governments across America, representing almost  3,000 cities. For more information about the roadshow or to learn more about NLC’s centennial events or initiatives, visit nlc100.org.
