DALY CITY — A person died early Friday in a two-car freeway crash that shut down two lanes, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened about 8:05 a.m. on southbound Interstate 280 at the John Daly Boulevard on-ramp and ended with one of the cars overturned, according to initial reports confirmed by the CHP. One person died at the scene.

Authorities did not immediately identify the dead person, pending notification of relatives.

Several tree branches fell along the far left lane, and Caltrans needed workers using chainsaws to get them out of the way. The two far left lanes were closed for about 45 minutes after the crash, and cars squeezed by in the far right lane.

The CHP re-opened the lanes about 8:50 a.m.
