New fire engine
The Saratoga Fire Station will soon be getting a brand-new fire engine, according to a tweet from the Santa Clara County Fire Department.
The engine will need to undergo final outfitting before being put into service in the city of Saratoga, the department said on July 22. The department’s stations in Los Altos and Campbell will also be receiving new engines, the post reads.
Aging in place
Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley received funding from Santa Clara County to support its efforts to help seniors in the county age in place.
The nonprofit helps older adults by implementing essential repairs and accessibility modifications for disadvantaged seniors in the South Bay. The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors approved funding for Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley to provide repairs to qualifying homeowners in County Supervisor Joe Simitian’s District 5, which includes Los Gatos, Saratoga and Monte Sereno.
“The last several years have been difficult for everyone; many people were pushed to the absolute edge by the pandemic and the high cost of living,” Simitian said in a release. “People had to put off home repairs to attend to even more pressing needs like food, medicine or paying the mortgage.”
To be eligible for services, homeowners must have a household income at or below 80% of the area median income and demonstrate a need for home repairs.
