WALNUT CREEK — A deadly crash early Thursday caused a major bypass commute road to be closed, a situation that was expected to affect traffic all day, authorities said.
Few details on the crash were available immediately, but authorities confirmed that a driver died in the wreck and another person was hospitalized. It was unknown how critical that person was injured.
The crash happened around 1 a.m. on Ygnacio Valley Road between Civic Center and Broadway, according to authorities. Ygnacio Valley Road allowed commuters to go from central Contra Costa County to eastern Contra Costa County.
A small power outage to an unknown amount of people also resulted from the wreck, but PG&E’s outage map indicated there were no outages in the city at 6 a.m.
Ygnacio Valley Road was expected to be closed at least much of Thursday morning.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
