The San Diego Padres bolstered their bullpen Sunday, acquiring reliever Jason Adam from the Tampa Bay Rays for three prospects, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The Rays acquired right-hander Dylan Lesko, outfielder Homer Bush Jr. and a third prospect in the deal, the sources told Passan. Lesko (No. 3) and Bush (No. 8) are both ranked among the top 10 prospects in the Padres’ farm system, according to MLB.com.
Adam, a right-hander, joins outfielder Randy Arozarena (to the Seattle Mariners) and right-handed starter Zach Eflin (to the Baltimore Orioles) as prominent players the Rays have dealt before the trade deadline.
Adam, 32, has a 2.49 ERA this season in 47 innings pitched. He is 4-2 and has four saves. He has a 3.07 ERA in seven major league seasons.
He is under club control (arbitration eligible) through the 2026 season.
The Padres (57-50) currently occupy the second National League wild-card spot.
The Rays (53-52), who have made the postseason each of the past five seasons, are currently in fourth place in the American League East standings.
