Perseids picnic

Before the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority opens one of its preserves for peak viewing of the Perseids Meteor Shower on Aug. 12, there’ll be a Zoom webinar Aug. 2, noon-12:30 p.m., for folks to learn all about how and why this meteor shower happens. The presentation will also be recorded and posted later on the Open Space Authority’s YouTube channel.

Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve will be open Aug. 12, 8 p.m. to midnight, for an up-close view of the Perseids, with the potential to see up to 90 meteors an hour, including 10 to 15 large and dramatic ones. These meteors emerge from the constellation Perseus and streak across the sky. Picnicking is encouraged at this event.

Reserve a spot at either event at Eventbrite.com. A Zoom sign-up link will be automatically sent to webinar attendees in the order confirmation.
