Those are the words of professional Mustang historian Donald Farr after inspecting this grand-prize 1965 Mustang GT 2+2 fastback that sold new at the Sanders Motor Co. in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Rotisserie restored by Mustang Restorations, Inc. of East Dundee, Illinois, the largest Mustang restoration shop on the planet, this K-code Mustang was restored to be even better than it was when it left the Ford plant decades ago. This may just be the prettiest first-gen Mustang you’ve ever set your eyes on.
Equally impressive, is how this K-code Mustang 2+2 left the factory which is what makes it so incredibly rare and special. 289ci solid-lifter V-8 engine, factory four-speed, Caspian Blue paint, matching two-tone Pony interior, Rally Pac gauges, floor length console and many more options are documented on the window sticker. And MSRP? At $3,866, it was so pricey that its original owner could have driven home in nearly anything shiny in that new-car showroom back in 1965.
And rare? How about really rare! Did you know that only 1% of all Mustang production from 1964-1966 were K-code cars equipped with the solid-lifter 289ci V-8?
Now for the Seventies-era F-150. It’s from a one-owner collection from the dry Southwest United States. It features Midnight Blue paint and a Light Blue Two Tone bench seat interior, a numbers-matching 351ci V-8 engine, a 4-speed manual transmission, a manually selected two-speed transfer, power steering, power brakes and a tow package. It’s been treated to frosty-cold Vintage Air A/C, a rumbly dual exhaust and a form-fitted bed liner.
