Since its release, the 1911 DS Prodigy from Springfield Armory has experienced rising popularity among shooters. The pistol delivers everything people love about the 1911 platform, only with a double-stack capacity. However, not everyone can enjoy the large capacity due to restrictive policies in their state or jurisdiction. For this reason, Springfield Armory now offers the Prodigy with a 10-round capacity, making it available to anyone.

Available in 4.25- and 5-inch models, the 1911 DS Prodigy features a polymer grip mounted to the pistol’s forged steel frame. Ensuring positive retention during courses of fire the grip features a wraparound Adaptive Grip Texture treatment. Made popular on the Hellcat family, this grip texture provides a secure grip, whether wet or dry.

Just forward of the grip is a squared trigger guard with a high undercut, promoting a high, secure grip to help mitigate recoil. In front of the trigger guard is a Picatinny rail for attaching a light or laser. Correspondingly, the 4.25-inch model has a single slot, and the 5-inch model has five slots.

Riding atop the forged steel frame is a forged steel slide with aggressive forward and rear cocking serrations. Providing the aiming solution is a fiber-optic front sight coupled with a serrated rear sight. However, the slide also features an optic cut for the installation of your choice of red dot optic.

You might have noticed that the rear sight is attached to the optic cover plate, so it will be removed with the plate. However, the Prodigy employs the AOS (Agency Optic System) plates. The plates come with a rear sight attached, designed to co-witness with your optic.

Housed within the slide is a 4.25- or 5-inch match-grade bushingless forged steel bull barrel chambered in 9mm. The Prodigy is made safe via an ambidextrous thumb safety and beavertail grip safety.

To ensure that people living in restrictive jurisdictions can use the Prodigy, it is now available in 10-round capacity. However, the internals have remained the same. So, if you move to a state without capacity restrictions, it will run the 17-, 20-, or 26-round magazines.
