SAN MARTIN – A grass fire threatened more than half a dozen homes Thursday night in San Martin, according to officials.

The blaze — dubbed the Columbet Fire — broke out around 5:50 p.m. at Columbet and East Middle avenues, said Cal Fire Santa Clara Unit spokesperson Chelsea Burkett.

Burkett said Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies evacuated around seven homes.

The fire covered five acres and was 75% contained as of 9:15 p.m., Cal Fire said in a social media post. Residents who were evacuated were being allowed to return home.

One outbuilding was damaged by the fire, Burkett said.

No injuries were reported. Burkett said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
