Utah Hockey Club forward Liam O’Brien signed a three-year contract extension Wednesday.
Financial terms were not disclosed by the team, but TSN reported the deal was worth a total of $3 million. He was a pending unrestricted free agent prior to signing the contract.
“We are very pleased to sign Liam to a three-year contract,” Utah general manager Bill Armstrong said. “He adds energy, grit and physical presence to the lineup every night that will greatly complement the excitement we expect from Utah hockey fans, especially in our inaugural season. We look forward to having Liam on our roster for the next several seasons.”
O’Brien, 29, recorded career-high totals in goals (five), assists (nine), points (14) and penalty minutes (153) in 75 games last season with the Arizona Coyotes, who have relocated to Salt Lake City under new ownership.
He has 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) in 199 career games with the Washington Capitals, Colorado Avalanche and Coyotes.
