A month after his first Los Angeles Dodgers bobblehead giveaway, Shohei Ohtani will get another one, this time with his dog, Decoy.
Ohtani and Decoy will be featured on a bobblehead that will be given away during the Dodgers’ game against the Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 28. Ohtani is holding his dog, also with a bobblehead, while wearing a Dodgers home uniform.
The announcement came after Decoy celebrated his first birthday earlier this week.
During Ohtani’s introduction as a Dodger in December 2023, he revealed the name of his puppy: Decoy, which is an American nickname for his Japanese name, Dekopin.
“I figured [Dekopin] would be hard for American people to pronounce it,” Ohtani said through his then-interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara.
Ohtani’s first bobblehead giveaway last month created “a stir.” Only the first 40,000 fans were able to receive the item. The sellout crowd of 53,527 was the largest in the majors this season and the most at Dodger Stadium since Sept. 20, 2019.
