SAN JOSE — An earthquake centered in the eastern hills of the Santa Clara Valley rattled through the South Bay near San Jose Saturday night.
The quake’s magnitude was 3.1, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake occurred around 11:29 p.m. Saturday, the USGS reported.
By midnight, at least 100 people had reported to the Geological Survey that they had felt the earthquake.
The shaker was located 8.8 miles northeast of Morgan Hill. It was also due east of the south San Jose area, a review of the USGS map shows.
The quake epicenter was located in the central section of the Calaveras Fault, according to the USGS.
Local authorities didn’t immediately report any instances of damage or injuries as a result of the quake.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 2.5 miles, the USGS reported.
The quake was located near San Felipe Creek and Henderson Ridge a few miles south of Mt. Hamilton and Joseph D. Grant County Park and a few miles from Henry W. Coe State Park.
