MORGAN HILL – A 19-year-old San Jose woman was killed in a multivehicle collision Tuesday night on northbound Highway 101 in Morgan Hill, according to authorities.
The fatal crash happened around 9:20 p.m. south of Cochrane Road, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.
According to the CHP, the woman was riding a 2023 Yamaha R7 in the left lane when she collided with the back of a 2023 Kia Forte, which was traveling at 5 mph. She continued traveling northbound and was thrown from her motorcycle after crashing into a 2016 Ram 2500 that had stopped for a separate collision. She came to a rest under the truck.
The driverless motorcycle ended up in the next lane over, where it hit a 2009 Ford Escape traveling 40 to 50 mph.
The CHP said the woman died of her injuries at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release her identity once it is confirmed and her next of kin is notified.
An investigation is underway into the crash. It was not immediately clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
