REDWOOD CITY – A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbing a convenience store with a knife over the weekend in Redwood City, according to authorities.
The incident happened around 12:15 p.m. Saturday at the 7-Eleven located at 5th Avenue and Bay Road, the Redwood City Police Department said in a news release.
The clerk told officers a man took items from the store without paying. When confronted by the clerk, the man “brandished a large knife in a threatening manner,” police said.
Fearing for his safety, the clerk retreated into the store and called 911. No injuries were reported.
Deputies with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office detained the man near the scene. Both the clerk and a witness identified the man as the person who robbed the store, police said, adding that the stolen items and the knife were also found nearby.
The man was arrested and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on a second-degree robbery charge and a probation violation. He is being held on $50,000 bail and is set to appear in court on June 25, according to jail records.
