We’ve just gotten over Memorial Day weekend, which is the unofficial start of the summer. That means show season has started! But, for those who live in California, show season began a while ago, much to the envy of most of America and Canada. To whet your appetite for what’s in store this summer, here’s coverage on the recent Sand Sports Off-Road & Motorsports Super Show & Swap Meet at Costa Mesa’s Orange County Fair & Event Center.

Held on May 18, 2024, the Sand Sports Super Show characterizes itself as “ground zero for motorsports enthusiasts who like to play and race in the sand.” It’s the biggest dune and dirt sports expo in the world, and has been this way since 1999. Hundreds of exhibitors and many more attendees come together to buy and sell the hottest deals in gear and vehicles from industry leaders and enthusiasts, as well as revel in the fun and demonstrations.

If this is a world unfamiliar to you, you’re not alone. Out in Phoenix, we often see off-road vehicles like rock crawlers, UTVs (utility terrain vehicles), SXS (side-by-sides), and other desert buggies being tugged along on trailers, if not in their natural environs. California has a similar scene because, let’s be honest, California has everything under the sun. Two-wheelers are also a part of the scene.

The next Sand Sports Super Show will happen on September 20-22, 2024 at the same location in Costa Mesa. And if you enjoy enthusiast events that are a bit off the radar from the usual car stuff, there’s also Joe’s Minibike Reunion in La Crescenta, California. Though exact dates for October are not yet finalized, this event celebrates those little two-wheelers that you may have had as a kid (“Riding that minibike gave me my first true sense of freedom and independence,” says Joe), or that guilty pleasure you have as an adult.
