A police officer, two citizens and the suspected shooter are dead, and three others are injured after a gunman opened fire in a Minnesota neighborhood on Thursday afternoon.
The Minneapolis Police Department confirmed with Fox News Digital that law enforcement responded to an active situation in a residential neighborhood south of the city’s downtown area on Thursday afternoon.
Sources confirmed to FOX 9 that there were six people shot, including two police officers and four civilians.
In an update at 8:30 p.m., city officials said the suspected gunman and two citizens were dead. Law enforcement sources also told FOX 9 that one of the police officers was also killed in the shooting.
In a statement on X, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz thanked first responders for keeping the community safe.
“The State Patrol is on the scene in South Minneapolis assisting local law enforcement,” Walz said. “The State of Minnesota stands ready to provide any resources necessary. Praying for all the first responders on the ground working to keep the community safe.”

As of 8:30 p.m., city officials said there was no ongoing threat to the public after the shooting, but they are asking residents to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
