Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 19k-Mile 1994 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat 5.8L 4WD.
How is it that a 30-year-old truck has covered fewer than 20,000 original miles? Seems remarkable, to say the very least. Most people buy pickup trucks for utilitarian purposes, not to stash them away like an exotic collector car. But somehow this one survived as if it were in a time capsule, and it is now being offered by a private seller in Canton, Michigan. The auction will end on Tuesday.
Ford pickups from the 1980s and 1990s were core elements of my younger years. Back in February, I finally acquired one of my teenage dream rides, an F-250 SuperCab. Interestingly enough, one of my truck’s two paint codes is the same “Brilliant Blue Clearcoat Metallic” as today’s featured truck. And even more fittingly, both trucks originated at the same dealership in Spokane, Washington: McCollum Ford Sales, Incorporated. Perhaps our vehicles occupied the showroom – or at least the outdoor lot – together?
The window sticker included in the listing gives a glimpse into the truck’s specifications: The base price started out at $16,791, and on top of that, some significant upgrades were integrated. The Preferred Equipment Package 507A cost $3,346 and added cruise control, a tilt steering wheel, a light and convenience group, power door locks, and power windows. The truck also has an optional four-speed automatic transmission, a camper package, and a chrome rear step bumper. All-in, the price came out to $22,946.
The CARFAX is also a strong source of data. From that document we learn that the truck accrued about 17,600 miles in its first 12 years… and, it has been driven just 1,700 more miles in the 18 years since that time! Talk about a garage queen. It would be interesting to interview the original owner and find out exactly how and where the truck was so sparingly used.
Under the hood, the Windsor 5.8-liter V8 was rated at 210 horsepower when new. The AutoHunter listing says that the truck received replacement of the fuel sending unit and the motor oil recently.
This all begs the question: What would you do with a truck like this? It would make a great contender for a future RADwood car show, that’s for sure.
