SAN JOSE — A city contractor was found dead Friday morning at the San Jose Animal Care Center, officials said.
It was not immediately clear how the person died. No pets were involved in the incident, the City of San Jose Animal Care & Services said in a social media post.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the city contractor who passed away,” the agency said. “The City of San Jose team is devastated by this news and is focusing on supporting staff who worked with their colleague.”
The center at 2750 Monterey Road was closed following the death, but it was expected to reopen for normal activities Saturday.
An investigation is underway, the agency said, adding that it is working closely with the San Jose police and fire departments, as well as the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health.
A spokesperson for the police department confirmed it is investigating an unattended death but referred additional questions to the San Jose City Manager’s Office.
The city manager’s office did not immediately return a message seeking details about the incident.
