ANTIOCH – A man who was arrested after an hours-long lockdown Monday in Antioch was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this year in the Central Valley, according to police.

The fatal shooting happened around 8:40 p.m. on March 18 at East Market and South East streets in Stockton, the Stockton Police Department said in a news release Tuesday.

Officers arrived to find a 40-year-old man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to police. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Police did not release a motive for the shooting.

Detectives identified the suspect as 28-year-old Carlos Palacios and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Palacios was arrested Monday in Antioch. His presence near Gentrytown Drive and Putnam Street triggered a lockdown from just before 2 p.m. to shortly after 5 p.m.

“Go inside, close and lock all windows and doors,” the Contra Costa County emergency warning system said in a message to residents in the area. “Stay off the phone and do not call 911 unless you need to report a life-threatening emergency.”
