Yep, today is the Mustang’s birthday. With a celebration in Charlotte, fireworks are a-happening as Ford has just announced the Mustang 60th Anniversary Package that draws on the classic style of the 1965 original.
Sure, that’s 1965 since there’s no official 1964-½ Mustang. With the introduction at the 1964 New York Word’s Fair in Queens, Ford had a winner like no other – after all, we’re still talking about Mustangs 60 years later, right?
“The design was directly inspired by the clean silhouette of the original car,” says Stefan Taylor, Ford senior designer. “During the design process, we looked closely at the finely detailed elements of the 1965 Mustang, like the fender badges and wheel center caps. Our focus was capturing the feel of the ‘65, while also staying true to the Mustang as the modern sports car that it is.”
The package will only be available for the 2025 GT Premium, which of course is equipped with a 5.0 V8. Take your pick of coupe or convertible, manual or automatic. Design cues inspired by the 1965 Mustang GT include:
- Special fender badges
- Unique mesh grille with silver-accented nostrils that function as air intakes
- Smoked Mustang Nite Pony headlight housing
- Iconic Silver mirror caps on Race Red or Vapor Blue cars, body-color on Wimbledon White
- Space Gray, Carmine Red, or Black Onyx interior colors
- Rocker stripes in Iconic Silver or Vermillion Red
- 20-inch Dark Gravity Gray wheels with a Vermillion Red aluminum center cap
- Serialized 60th Anniversary interior plaque
Adds Matt Simpson, Ford Enthusiast Vehicles general manager, “”We took inspiration from the original Mustang and applied some of the most special design elements to the latest in this limited production run. Mustang’s design DNA has never been stronger or more enduring than this multi-generational tribute.”
Only 1,965 will be built for 2025. See your local Ford dealer soon as the Mustang 60th Anniversary Package will be available to order this summer.
