In order to deliver the ultimate in luxury, a home should be well-laid-out, inviting, attractive, and comfortable – in addition to offering the latest in modern conveniences. The same philosophies that apply to real estate also hold true for homes on-the-go. Charged with that mindset, owner Aaron Weimer and the rest of the team at 1492 Coachworks set out to take RV travel to completely new heights by developing a start-to-finish build experience which allows clients to customize their dream motor coaches or toy haulers.
Barrett-Jackson was proud to feature 1492 Coachworks at this year’s Scottsdale auction. And just in case you didn’t get the chance to step inside one of the company’s creations, you are in luck, because Weimer is ready to take you on a tour of one of the latest builds. The website for 1492 Coachworks says, “We exist to serve the RV enthusiasts who have tasted the joy of RV life and are looking for a truly customized living space.”
Guiding Principle
Based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 1492 Coachworks’ specialty is built-to-order, customer-centered product development. After all, just because you are on the road doesn’t mean you should have to sacrifice the comfort and conveniences of home. Each 1492 build is centered around engineering the vehicle for the client. Weimer said, “It all starts with a conversation. What are you looking for?” Even small details like upholstery texture, stitching, and grout colors are variable.
Sample Key Build Elements
On display at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale this year was a 45-foot 2024 Peterbilt Model 389 RV with welded aluminum exterior skin throughout. While classic and restrained in exterior design and paint color, it was a brand-new vehicle with all the expected modern technology. The powertrain centered around a X15 Cummins diesel engine boasting 605 horsepower and a staggering 2,050 lb-ft of torque. An 18-speed automatic transmission ensured that efficiency and power were part of the planning equation.
Weimer described this example as a “couple’s coach” since the floor plan incorporated fixed lounge seating as opposed to modular furniture that converted into sleeping quarters.
A few of the other features that stood out on this build were:
- 25-foot hose reel
- Auto-locking drawers when vehicle is in Drive
- Dishwasher
- Exterior cooler
- Four-slide design for optimized interior space
- Full-size residential refrigerator
- Hardwood maple cabinetry with soft-close doors
- Industry-exclusive air seals for the slide-outs
- Magnetic door catches
- Pull-out pantry
- Quartz counter tops
- Stacked washer and dryer
Service-Oriented Mindset
Unlike some motor coach retailers, 1492 operates a factory-direct arrangement. Communication and service needs are handled with the client directly through the facility in Oklahoma City. Best of all, design engineers incorporated forward-thinking concepts like under-body service ports for access to critical areas. In addition, mechanical equipment is labeled with engraved tags for ease of identification.
