The New Orleans Pelicans kept receipts after defeating the Miami Heat 111-88 on the road Friday night.
The Pelicans — particularly Naji Marshall — remembered comments made by Jimmy Butler after the Heat’s win last month.
Marshall replied to a video of a Butler soundbite with a “My Volume don’t work what he say ?????” comment in a now-deleted tweet. The Pelicans opted for multiple trolls, including changing their bio to “Keeping Receipts.”

Miami defeated New Orleans 106-95 on Feb. 23 in a game that included four players ejected — Butler, Thomas Bryant, Jose Alvarado and Marshall. The ejections were a result of dustup that began after a Kevin Love foul on Zion Williamson early in the fourth quarter. Marshall and Butler nearly came to blows.
“We’ll beat them the next time too,” Butler said after that game. “We’re just a better team. I’m not going to say that they’re not a good team. But I don’t think this really matters. I think that when we get them on our home court, it’s going to be a different game. I hope that they’re healthy. And it’s going to be the same outcome.”
At least for now, the Pelicans will have the last laugh. They have no more matchups against the Heat this season, unless the two sides meet in the NBA Finals.
