SAN JOSE — Two Antioch residents suspected of committing a string of local bank robberies were arrested last week, police said Wednesday.

Police nabbed the 37-year-old man and 43-year-old woman after serving a search warrant March 6 at the man’s Antioch home, according to a statement from San Jose police. Officers said they found an unregistered and loaded Glock handgun and ammunition during the search.

Both remained in custody at the Santa Clara County jail, authorities said.

Police identified the man as a suspect following a robbery at a bank in the 500 block of West Capitol Expressway on Feb. 12. In that robbery, police said he handed over a note to the teller that said, “I need all the money in both of your drawers. Be quick. No games.”

The teller did what the suspect said, and he left with $1,000 in cash, police said. Detectives later determined he had been involved in bank robberies in Fremont, Sacramento and Modesto, as well as two attempted robberies in Milpitas and Sacramento, police said.

The woman is suspected of being the getaway driver in all five robberies, according to police. Both are awaiting formal charges in other counties, police said.
