Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this Supercharged 1997 Ford Mustang GT.
This pony car’s specialty is lurking in the darkness where it waits to challenge unsuspecting muscle cars to a duel. Finished in Midnight Moonlight Blue Metallic, it has an unassuming look that could be misinterpreted for a completely stock car. But under the hood, this GT has a little something special going on. It is being offered for sale by a dealer in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and the auction will end on Monday.
Dubbed the “SN95” internally during development, the fourth-generation Mustang was offered in Ford showrooms for about a decade from 1994 through 2004 model years. Right out of the gate, journalists praised the car’s performance and design. Motor Trend said the following about it:
“Its first-class styling, excellent dynamics, and adherence to performance as a fundamental truth make it the most significant new American car this year. In all its iterations, it’ll appeal to many more drivers than merely the legion of Mustang buffs who’ve anxiously awaited its arrival. The new Mustang earns our highest accolade: 1994 Car of the Year.”
The biggest conversation piece for today’s car is its modified powertrain: The story starts with the car’s original Modular 4.6-liter SOHC V8 that was rated at 215 horsepower when new. From there, performance upgrades were added which include a Vortech V2 supercharger, a Setrab oil cooler, Taylor Cable Products spark plug wires, BBK Performance headers, and a BBK Performance fuel pressure regulator. The dealer hasn’t shared data on horsepower numbers achieved with all these go-fast goodies, but we expect it to perform better than a bone stock GT by a fair margin.
Of course, all the power in the world can only do so much if you don’t have handling. With that in mind, the build included SR Performance lowering springs, BBK Performance upper strut tower adjusters, upgraded anti-sway bars, and more. Whether you are headed to the street or the strip, this car is ready to put on a show.
Adding to the appeal is the car’s low mileage reading of just 41,792 miles. The CARFAX report corroborates the car’s accident-free, low-mileage backstory: It was Ohio-owned until 2020 when it was relocated to New York, and it then made a final move to Oklahoma in summer 2023.
