Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.

Perhaps you have heard of a company called Restore a Muscle Car LLC. And in case you haven’t, here’s a crash course: The company will celebrate its 20-year anniversary next year and has become renowned around the world for its expertise in doing exactly what its name implies. Today, RAMC employs 15 full-time staff members and is located in Lincoln, Nebraska at a 15,000-square-foot facility. The place has become such an attraction that the business’ website even provides recommended hotel accommodations for folks coming to visit from out of town. That’s my kind of theme park!

If you have ever been on the hunt for a classic Firebird, opportunity is knocking, because today’s featured car was built by Restore a Muscle Car in 2021. On top of having a numbers-matching 400cid powerplant, it comes with upgrades including a performance camshaft, headers, a 2.5-inch exhaust system, and an Advanced Friction clutch. The car is being offered by a selling dealer in Apopka, Florida, and the auction ends tomorrow.

Alongside its Camaro sibling, the Firebird had moved into its second generation beginning in 1970, and the design lasted until 1981. One of my favorite features of this 1978-model-year build is its choice in wheel designs: The snowflake-style alloy 17-inch wheels share the same general design language as the car’s original 15-inch versions, but with a subtle pop of modern flair (in addition to offering benefits when it comes to cornering and handling). The interior was redone in a two-tone red and white theme, and air conditioning is optioned.

Up front, momentum comes from a reportedly numbers-matching W72 400cid V8 mated to a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. The odometer reads just 38,347 miles, and the selling dealer believes this number to be accurate.

Be sure to check out Restore a Muscle Car’s Facebook page which has over 127,000 followers. Also, the company’s YouTube channel has some entertaining recent videos with vehicles like a Camaro IROC, a C3 Corvette, a vintage Blazer, and many other collector cars.

One of the community initiatives that Restore a Muscle Car hosts is called the “Bandit Run.” It is, of course, a tribute to the 1977 Burt Reynolds film “Smokey and the Bandit.” Make a move on this auction and you can register in time for this year’s event, which will take place the week of June 9-13, 2024.

The auction for this 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am ends tomorrow, March 1, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. (MST)
