The term “quattro” means four in Italian and was trademarked by Audi over 40 years in reference to the company’s all-wheel-drive technology. Audi is so proud of the system that it has been referred to as “an unfair advantage on the road and racetrack.” One of the popular applications of quattro appeared in the S4 sport sedan, and today, we get to look at a vehicle so-equipped:
Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 2011 Audi S4 Premium Plus.
The “compact executive” A4 has been around for over 30 years and continues to be a strong volume seller for the brand (it sold 13,000 units in the United States in 2023, which reflected a 39% uptick from the prior year). The high-performance variant of the A4 is the S4. Today’s featured Ice Silver Metallic S4 is being sold by a dealer in Irvine, California. The auction ends Thursday.
The fifth generation of the S4 lived from 2009 through 2016 and rode on the Volkswagen Group’s B8 platform. It offered some distinct standard equipment above the standard A4, including a glass sunroof, xenon headlamps, Alcantara upholstery inserts, heated front seats, and a concert radio. Most importantly, the car boasted upgraded performance equipment such as enhanced braking and an S4-specific “sport” suspension.
Along the lines of performance, today’s S4 receives power from an Eaton-supercharged 3.0-liter TFSI V6 mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The powertrain was rated at 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque, and of course, it came with Audi’s famous quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system. The car has only 63,000 miles on the odometer, and maintenance history appears to have been consistent. The seller uploaded a recent service invoice that shows replacement of the engine mount, water pump, starter, coolant, power steering fluid, and spark plugs.
The 2011 S4 started at $47,100 when new. If you missed the chance to buy one 13 years ago, this could be your chance to acquire a low-mileage example that comes with documented service history for added peace of mind. Not to mention, that quattro system yields benefits in adverse road conditions that are common this time of year in various parts of the country.
