Healthcare warriors
Besides helping with the nation’s critical blood shortage, everyone who donates blood this month at the Stanford Blood Center’s South Bay Donor Center in Campbell will be entered into a drawing for tickets to see the Golden State Warriors take on the San Antonio Spurs on March 9 at Chase Center.
The Campbell donation center is located at 295 E Hamilton Ave. Appointments for all blood types can be made at sbcdonor.org, or by calling 888-723-7831 or texting to 999-777.
Donors should be in good health with no cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (or 16 with a parent or guardian’s consent) and must and bring a photo ID with them to the blood center. For more information, visit stanfordbloodcenter.org/eligibility or call 888-723-7831.
Computer science bill
Assemblymember Marc Berman and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond unveiled legislation Feb. 6 to require all public high schools in the state to offer at least one computer science education course. The bill, AB 2097, also establishes computer science as a high school graduation requirement by the 2030-31 school year.
“Not only will AB 2097 help provide the workforce needed for California to remain competitive with other states and other nations, but it is also crucial in closing the existing gender and diversity gaps,” said Berman, whose district includes Campbell.
Currently, 27 states require high schools to offer a computer science course, and five of those states include a computer science course in their graduation requirements.
