Much to the disappointment of tropically inclined Baby Boomers everywhere, Jimmy Buffett passed away last September due to skin cancer. His music lives on radios and a SiriusXM station around the world, as does a certain 1963½ Ford Falcon Sprint convertible that he used to own. Now you can be the new caretaker of this parrot-headed Blue Oval ragtop on at the GAA Classic Cars Auction on February 24, 2024.
Ford Falcon history can be confusing, but the Sprint was a mid-year 1963 model that took the bucket-seat Futura one step further due to a semi-fastback roofline for the two-door hardtop (a convertible also was available) and a standard V8 engine, in this case a 260 two-barrel.
Jimmy Buffett came to acquire this Falcon Sprint convertible in the early 1980s after sending a letter to Classic Sixties magazine about his desire for a Falcon, a car he had previously owned when he was young starving artist. The planets aligned and he quickly found a four-speed Sprint convertible in Oregon. Over time, the Sprint’s induction system was changed to a Holley four-barrel and intake. Buffet also added a roll bar to handle his surf boards, Australian sheepskin seat covers, and what’s characterized as an “extravagant” sound system. Looking at the images, it appears that the original steering wheel has been replaced as well.
The sale of this Ford will also include a surfboard and signed Fender Squire Stratocaster guitar with a certificate of authenticity.
