Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 40,000-mile 1989 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 Convertible

The Fox body Mustangs, named this because they were built on the new at the time Ford Fox platform, had an incredibly long 15 year production run, making it (at the time) the longest single Mustang design ever created. These cars were incredibly important for Mustang fans as they brought back performance to the Mustang name after the dark years of the Ford Pinto derived Mustang II. The were offered with the 5.0 V8 engine from the start and put the Mustang back on the radar of car enthusiasts.

These cars had a cult following from new and have continued to increase in popularity with hot rudders and enthusiasts over the years. Due to this, finding a low mile, stock configuration 5.0 liter V8 equipped Fox body Mustang is getting harder and harder to do.

Today’s AutoHunter Spotlight is one of these more rare examples, a 1989 Ford Mustang LX convertible with a stock 5.0 liter engine under the hood.

The seller describes this Mustang LX convertible as a car that has been driven 40,528 miles since new and is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 backed by a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include power mirrors, a luggage rack, air conditioning, power steering, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, a tilt steering column, power door locks, a power trunk release, and power front disc brakes. Finished in Oxford White and equipped with a newer power white convertible top over a gray vinyl interior.

The car has what is said to be a rust-free body finished in the factory color of Oxford White and equipped with a newer power white convertible top. Exterior features include light grey accent stripes, a fender-mounted antenna, dual power mirrors, black side moldings, and a black luggage rack. The car rides on a set of factory 16-inch five-spoke chrome wheels wrapped in 225/55ZR16 Continental ExtremeContact radial tires. These are later model Mustang wheels, but the car also comes with its original alloys.

The interior is a time capsule and looks to be in almost new condition, with later model Mustang gray vinyl front bucket seats and a matching rear seat surrounded by gray vinyl door panels and trim. The seats were originally grey cloth and those accompany the car when sold. Interior features include power windows and locks, a tilt steering column, power steering, cruise control, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, air conditioning, a center console-mounted automatic transmission shifter, and black floor mats with embroidered Mustang logos. The selling dealer states that the original-style Ford stereo was installed within the last year.

Under the hood is the car’s original 5.0-liter V8 engine backed by a four-speed automatic transmission. The engine was factory-rated at 225 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The selling dealer states that the radiator was replaced within the last year.

This honestly looks like a great example of a V8-powered Fox body Mustang convertible and is a car that will provide years and many miles of driving enjoyment.
