Housing board’s term extended
The Los Gatos Town Council unanimously approved an extension to the term of the Housing Element Advisory Board, a body that guides the process of developing the town’s Housing Element, at its Jan. 16 meeting.
The resolution for the extension states that the advisory board needs additional time to complete its work, including a review of comments received from the state’s Housing and Community Development department last December. The extension from Jan. 31 to Aug. 31 marks the fourth since the council first voted to establish the advisory board in August 2021.
The council also reviewed a series of proposed revisions to the Housing Element, which were largely technical changes to dates and headings but also included revisions guiding an effort to increase access to housing in “areas of opportunity.”
The suggestions include rezoning to allow for an increased density of residential areas in Los Gatos, expanding “inclusionary housing” to produce more low-income housing and expanding housing opportunities on religious institutional sites in Los Gatos.
The council is set to meet again at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6. Members of the public can attend the meeting in person at the Los Gatos town council chambers or virtually via the town’s youtube channel at http://www.losgatosca.gov/TownYouTube.
