No. 11 Campolindo 51, Miramonte 49
All signs were pointing toward a Miramonte victory at home on Friday night against rival Campolindo.
The Matadors got a three-quarters-length basket from Chase Miller as time expired to end the third quarter, a shot so jaw-dropping that the Miramonte student section, part of a boisterous standing-room-only crowd, nearly spilled onto the court in jubilee.
Then Miramonte kept the points coming, building a seven-point advantage that had Campo wobbling.
But the Cougars were not done.
They rallied down the stretch, taking advantage of the interior after 6-foot-5 senior Thomas Zwahlen fouled out with about three minutes to go, and went on to a dramatic victory.
Campo scored the final nine points as it improved to 19-4 overall and 8-1 in the Diablo Athletic League.
Dylan Mansour had 14 points and Gavin Rendle finished with 12 points to lead Campo.
Miramonte got 13 points apiece from Zwahlen and Miller.
The victory kept Campo one game behind first-place Ygnacio Valley in the DAL standings with three games to go. Campo visits Ygnacio Valley on Wednesday.
Miramonte is 15-8, 5-4.
No. 1 Salesian 79, St. Mary’s-Berkeley 31
Salesian stretched its winning streak to 11 games with another display of dominance in the Tri-County Athletic League’s Rock Division, this time winning on the road over St. Mary’s.
Amani Johnson led the Pride with 14 points. Salesian also got 11 points from Leon Powe and 10 points from Carlton Perrilliat. Powe, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, is the son of a former Cal star by the same name who won an NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 2008.
Tyler Soto had 10 points for St. Mary’s.
Salesian upped its record to 23-1, 8-0. St. Mary’s is 12-10, 3-5.
No. 2 De La Salle 88, Livermore 44
De La Salle will enter the final week of the East Bay Athletic League’s regular season atop the standings after routing last-place Livermore behind 13 points from Alec Blair and 10 points and eight rebounds from David Balogun.
The Spartans, who improved to 21-3 overall and 7-0 in the league, will have the weekend off before a huge league game Tuesday at San Ramon Valley.
Livermore is 7-17, 0-7.
No. 15 Branham 64, Evergreen Valley 59
Branham didn’t have an easy time on its home court but managed to escape with a narrow victory over Evergreen Valley in Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division play.
The Bruins improved to 18-1, 7-0. Evergreen Valley fell to 9-9, 2-5.
Branham had five players score in double figures: Wyatt Sparling (14 points), Dasan Poston (12 points), Cayden Tanger (11 points), Nick Mego (11 points) and Ben Lim (10 points).
Andre Gutierrez finished with 20 points for Evergreen Valley, which also got 12 points each from Ismail Subedar and Yusuf Afifi.
Girls basketball
No. 5 Acalanes 70, Ygnacio Valley 29
Karyss Lacanlale buried seven 3-pointers and finished with 30 points to propel Acalanes to a lopsided victory on the road over Ygnacio Valley in DAL play.
The Dons also got 14 points from Cameron Thornton and 12 points from Dulci Vail as they improved to 19-4, 9-0.
Ygnacio Valley dropped to 12-10, 2-7.
No. 8 Pinewood 72, Priory 42
Jolyn Ding scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Katherine Garr added 15 points to lead Pinewood past host Priory in a West Bay Athletic League Foothill Division game.
Alex Facelo chipped in with 11 points for Pinewood, which improved to 12-4, 5-0.
Priory is 9-8, 3-1.
Mt. Diablo 69, Clayton Valley Charter 54
Natalie Dance scored 27 points and Makayla Powell added 24 points to lead Mt. Diablo to a victory over visiting Clayton Valley in DAL game.
Mt. Diablo is 20-4, 9-1. Clayton Valley dropped to 15-8, 5-4.
Mills 63, Hillsdale 53
Michelle Tang led the way with 19 points and Sofia Kwan scored all 12 her points in the second half as Mills defeated Hillsdale in Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division play.
Mills improved to 14-5, 5-1. The Vikings are tied with M-A atop the standings.
Hillsdale is 9-10, 1-5.
