OAKLAND — A 28-year-old man has been charged with robbing a family and shooting into a vehicle containing a baby and a 6-year-old while he was on probation.
No one was struck by the gunfire.
Patrice Davis, of Oakland, was charged with robbery, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, shooting into an occupied car and making criminal threats, court records show. He pleaded not guilty at a Thursday arraignment and remains jailed in lieu of $100,000.
According to Oakland police, Davis approached a car on the 1200 block of 104th Avenue in East Oakland at around 8 p.m. on Jan. 12, and robbed the occupants of a purse, wallet and their cellphones.
When the children’s father reportedly told Davis to stop because there were kids in the car, Davis allegedly responded, “I don’t care, I’ll kill you and your kids.”
Davis was on probation and wearing a GPS ankle monitor at the time of the incident, police say. That’s because he was charged last August with possessing ammunition, and pleaded no contest to accessory in November as part of a plea deal with county prosecutors.
In the August case, Davis had been under investigation for alleged involvement in a string of armed robberies and burglaries involving at least two other suspects, according to court records.
Davis’ next court appearance has been set for Jan. 25.
