Arizona’s “car season” is officially in full force, so buckle your seat belts because the next few weeks are going to take us all for quite the ride.
Just six days into the new year, Keith Ross and the rest of the planning team at Kyusha Club hosted a lively gathering of classic European and Japanese cars in Phoenix. The last time we covered this event was in March of last year, but the momentum came back even stronger this time around. The venue of choice was an auto shop near Roosevelt Drive and Central Avenue in downtown Phoenix. The convenient and very central location was one of the reasons why it attracted so many attendees.
Among them was Josser with a very rare silver 1991 Honda CRX Si Special Edition. This specific model was only sold in the Canadian market. He traveled to Vancouver, British Columbia and drove it the 1,550 miles home – a testament to his faith and confidence in old-school Honda reliability. The car has since undergone a full repaint and a few mechanical upgrades, but he plans to leave it largely as it sits otherwise.
One standout car to me was a bright red Lexus IS300 SportCross station wagon with a twin-turbo, six-speed manual swap. Even though it had grocery-getter looks aside from the color and the wheels, this car undoubtedly packed a performance punch. It would be fun to see what it could do on a track or open road.
Also in attendance was Tim Eull who took home honors at RADwood last fall with his exceptionally clean blue 1979 Mazda RX7. Except, this time around, Tim had his yellow 1993 instead of his blue 1979. It was stunning from every angle. Incidentally, Tim’s 1993 won “Best of Show” at last year’s Future Collector Car Show (FCCS) in Scottsdale during Barrett-Jackson.
Which brings us to a reminder and invitation: Many of the folks in attendance at the Kyusha show, including Tim, have plans to attend the upcoming FCCS. I will be there with other members of the Collector Car Network team. I encourage you to come out and say hello!
Event information is found at this link. The show will be held on Sunday, January 21 at the polo field at Westworld. The targeted attendee vehicles are from 1980 through current, and awards will be given out for particularly unique or well-presented examples. Oh yeah, and there’s a fashion show!
We look forward to seeing you there!
