SAN FRANCISCO – BART service was suspended between San Francisco and Oakland for 1½ hours Wednesday after a person entered the trackway, according to the transit agency.

The person entered the trackway near the Embarcadero Station in San Francisco just before 5 p.m., spurring a shutdown of the Transbay Tube that connects San Francisco and Oakland, BART spokesperson Anna Duckworth said in a recorded message at 6:20 p.m.

“At this point, police have determined that the person has left the trackway,” she said. “We are now in the process of restoring full service through the Transbay Tube.”

The BART Police Department is looking to identify the person who entered the trackway, the transit agency said in a social media post. Anyone with information can call 510-464-7040.

“We are very sorry for the service disruption this individual caused and we are looking to hold them accountable,” BART said.

The disruption left many trains running out of schedule, according to the transit agency.
