NBC News tried to accuse Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis of hypocrisy over his criticism of Hunter Biden, and critics on social media quickly ripped them to shreds.
DeSantis was quoted as agreeing that children of candidates were not fair game for criticism in reference to an attack Vivek Ramaswamy made against a daughter of Nikki Haley during the third Republican presidential debate.
“I think the kids are out of bounds. I didn’t think that was an appropriate thing to do,” said DeSantis. “I keep the kids out of it for sure.”
The article written by Alec Hernandez and Alex Tabet pointed out that that DeSantis has often lobbed criticism at President Joe Biden’s son, who is 53 years old.
Critics online lambasted the article for offering such a ridiculous comparison in an attempt to damage DeSantis.
“It’s an absolute shocker that their fact checks turn out the way they do, isn’t it?” replied Charles C.W. Cooke of National Review.
“Today i learned Hunter Biden is still a child,” responded podcaster and video editor Siraj Hashmi.
“The Ukrainian energy expert that left cocaine in the White House and used his dad’s name to make millions is off limits, guys!” replied Jeremy Redfern, DeSantis press secretary.
“Despite having the emotional maturity and self-control of a toddler, Hunter Biden is not a child. Man, the media should do a better job of concealing who they want to win the GOP nomination,” responded Ellen Carmichael.
“Just the dumbest stuff ever. President Biden’s 50-something son is under federal investigation and is about to be subpoenaed by the House,” said columnist Joe Concha.
The tweet from NBC News received the dreaded distinction of a ratio with only 372 likes in support but more than 2.1k responses and 1.1 million views.
