A Half Moon Bay man was arrested Saturday evening for elder abuse, criminal threats and battery against emergency personnel, among other charges, officials said.
Around 7 p.m., San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Elderberry Road in unincorporated Half Moon Bay on a report that a 49-year-old man was threatening his elderly parents, according to a press release from the department.
When deputies arrived, the man was breaking glass windows and his parents told law enforcement personnel that he was threatening to “kill his father by ripping his heart out of his chest.” The parents also believed he was on drugs.
Using a patrol car’s PA system, a deputy unsuccessfully asked the man to surrender, leading to deputies entering the home armed with a make-shift weapon.
During the arrest, one of the deputies sustained a minor injury. The suspect was transported to a local hospital to undergo a psychologic evaluation before being booked into Maguire Correction Facility in Redwood City.
