SANTA CLARA COUNTY — A single-car crash left one person dead on Interstate 280 early Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
The collision occurred after a male driver — who was traveling southbound on the highway — lost control of his vehicle and hit the concrete lane divider south of El Monte Road in Los Altos Hills. Authorities were notified of the crash at 3:35 a.m., and the driver was soon pronounced dead on the scene.
The freeway was closed to traffic from 4:48 a.m. to 5:26 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known; it was not clear if alcohol or drugs or speed were factors. The driver’s identity was withheld pending confirmation and notification of his next of kin.
