MOUNTAIN VIEW — A driver died early Friday morning after crashing into a concrete wall connector on Highway 85, authorities from the California Highway Patrol said.
About 1:55 am, the driver — who was traveling northbound toward the split between Highway 85 and US 101 — struck the connector for unknown reasons. The car burst into flames; after authorities put out the fire, one person was found dead inside the vehicle.
California Highway Patrol said the reason for the crash was still being investigated. It was unknown if alcohol or drug use, or excessive speed, were factors in the crash.
Coroner’s officials were working to verify the identity of the person killed.
