Five people were arrested late Wednesday night after a man was beaten while waiting at a bus stop in San Mateo, authorities said.
The beating happened shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday near Hillsdale Boulevard and Edison Street, in the city’s Hillsdale neighborhood, according to the San Mateo Police Department.
Five people surrounded a man who was waiting for the bus and began punching him, police said. One of the attackers also pulled out a knife and tried to stab the man.
The man managed to escape and call police for help. Officers later arrested four people from San Mateo — most of them teenagers — and a 17-year-old boy in connection with the attack, police said.
