The first rain of the season is heading to the Bay Area this week.

On Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service said on social media that a cold front will bring rain to the greater Bay Area, with most of it falling in the North Bay. It will be the first “significant rainfall” in the region since May.

The rain is expected to start on Monday and last through early Tuesday with most of the precipitation coming down starting Monday night. The North Bay is expected to get up to a quarter of an inch in the valleys and 0.3″-0.7″ at higher elevations.

The Peninsula, East Bay and the Santa Cruz mountains are expected to get just a drizzle, with predictions totaling a few hundredths of an inch.

The rain comes as the Bay Area has been struggling with poor air quality from wildfires in Oregon and Northern California. By Sunday, though, the air quality had improved in many parts of the region as wind patterns pushed out the smoke.
