Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1950 Ford F-1 Pickup.

It is hard to believe, but the Ford F-Series truck is now 75 years old. Over that lifespan, the F-150 has now evolved through 14 generations. Chances are, an F-Series truck has made its way into the home (and heart) of you or of someone you know! This red first-generation F-Series has undergone top-to-bottom restoration and is ready for shows or work duty. It is offered for sale by a dealer in Thousand Oaks, California with a clear title.

When the full-size F-Series first launched in January 1948, it marked a new direction for truck design. Previously, Ford pickups shared engineering architecture with the sedan lineup. Using a new purpose-built chassis that was specifically designed for trucks would heighten their capability and utility. A number of innovations added to the special nature of this build: Ford launched a new type of shock absorbers for added stability, and the cab was enlarged by seven inches in width for maximized interior space.

As is still the case today, F-Series trucks at the time could be configured in the 1940s and 1950s with a variety of chassis and payload combinations. Some were manufactured as panel trucks, others as heavy-duty commercial vehicles, and some even as school buses. The F-1 shown in today’s spotlight is a half-ton variant which was assigned a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 4,700 pounds.

The strength to back up that number comes from a 239cid flathead V8 mated to a three-speed manual transmission. Conveniently, even though this truck conveys an all-original look on the outside, it comes with power steering along with power-assisted front disc brakes. Those are nice creature comforts, but they also provide thoughtful safety upgrades.

The interior of the cab offers next-level comfort via a pair of bucket seats, and amenities are sparse but adequate. The electrical system has been upgraded to 12 volts, and there are controls for an accessory turn signal system for added safety. True mileage on the chassis is unknown, since a set of aftermarket Dolphin gauges have been added.

This is the truck that started Ford on the path to dominance in the pickup truck marketplace. Check it out and place a bid. You just might win the auction and be able to experience firsthand what made it so special!
