SUNNYVALE – Authorities are investigating the attempted murder of a man Tuesday night in Sunnyvale.

Officers were called to Hawthorn and Arbutus avenues around 10:40 p.m. for a report of gunshots and a vehicle collision, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said in a news release. They arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

An investigation revealed that the man was sitting in his vehicle when someone in a separate vehicle approached and fired two shots, hitting the man once, police said. The suspect then drove away.

Police did not announce any arrests in the case Wednesday.
