Perhaps we associate engine air intakes with the muscle car era, but they were not uncommon in the 1950s, as evidenced by the Ford Thunderbird and others. When it comes to drag racing and factory offerings, it seems the 1961 Super Duty Pontiac was the first to air induction. Would you believe it was a Ford truck scoop given a Pontiac part number? Racer Arnie Beswick is the one who initiated the whole thing. Pontiac also was the first to bring air induction to the street with an accessory system for Tri-Power GTOs.
