Urban Plates, a fast-casual chain with an organic philosophy and a made-from-scratch kitchen, has opened its fourth Bay Area location at Santana Row in San Jose.

Urban Plates boasts plates, sandwiches, salads and bowls featuring grass-fed, grass-finished beef; cage-free, antibiotic-free chicken; sustainable seafood; and organic produce. Diners may customize their lunch or dinner plates by selecting two hot or cold sides; those meals also come with grilled rustic bread.

Bestsellers include the Chimichurri Grass-Fed Steak, Grilled Sustainable Salmon and Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad. An entree that just hit the menu is the Surf & Turf Plate, which combines the popular Grilled Grass-Fed Steak with the new Garlic Shrimp with Parmesan Butter.

As part of its affordability concept, Urban Plates currently offers 13 meals for under $13, including a Moroccan Chicken Braise, a Caribbean Salad and a Grilled Portobello Mushroom Sandwich. The restaurant also offers a subscription membership program called Plate Pass, available online at www.urbanplates.com. For a monthly fee of $5 or less, customers may purchase menu items all month long at a 20% discount.

The grand opening party, which will feature live music, refreshments and a build-your-own-bouquet attraction, will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, and the public is invited.

Urban Plates, founded in San Diego County a decade ago, first expanded to the Bay Area with a Dublin eatery in 2015 and then a Pleasant Hill one in 2016. The first South Bay location opened in Sunnyvale last year at CityLine, a mixed-use development of housing, office and retail.

At Santana Row, the restaurant is located in the former Pluto’s space, 3055 Olin Ave., San Jose.
