The vice chairwoman of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party in Minnesota who was violently carjacked in front of her children had previously called to “dismantle” the police.

Shivanthi Sathanandan posted on Facebook a photograph of her bloodied face and detailed the injuries she sustained in the carjacking incident.

“Yesterday my children and I were violently car jacked in the driveway of our home in Minneapolis,” wrote Sathanandan. “Four very young men, all carrying guns, beat me violently down to the ground in front of our kids. The young men held our neighbors up at gunpoint when they ran over and tried to help me. All in broad daylight.”

The carjacking occurred at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday in front of Sathanandan’s home. She went on to say that she had a broken leg, deep lacerations on her head, and bruising and cuts all over her body.

“Look at my face in the picture. This is the face of a mother who just had the s*** beaten out of her,” she added.

She also demanded that criminal penalties be increased in order to deter violent crimes.

“We need to get illegal guns off of our streets, catch these young people who are running wild creating chaos across our city and HOLD THEM IN CUSTODY AND PROSECUTE THEM,” she wrote.

“Look at my face,” Sathanandan added. “REMEMBER ME when you are thinking about supporting letting juveniles and young people out of custody to roam our streets instead of HOLDING THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS.”

She garnered many comments of support from her friends and family on Facebook, but others pointed out that she had previously said she wanted to “dismantle” the Minneapolis police.

At the end of her recent post, Sathanandan thanked the Minneapolis police officers who helped her through the “terrifying experience.”

The Minneapolis Police Department said that the car was later recovered after the suspects abandoned it, according to KSTP-TV.

Minnesota DFL Chairman Ken Martin released a statement about the incident.

“I am heartbroken at the news of Shivanthi’s attack. It is my sincere hope that the people who assaulted Shivanthi are quickly brought to justice and face punishment commensurate with the severity of their crimes,” said Martin.

“My heart goes out to Shivanthi and her family and I hope their recovery from such a horrifying experience is as swift as possible,” he added.

A similar incident was reported in 2021 when a Pennsylvania Democrat was carjacked in broad daylight after supporting the “defund the police” movement.
